Project Morningside is heavily focused on creating a family home that develops character with its inhabitants and ages with the grace of modern European living. This space is designed to withstand the chaos of raising children, inspire romance for a lifetime and make the rest of the world go silent. Inspired by the clients love of simplicity, utilitarian lifestyle and the sweetness of youth we have opted for simple color palette, a mix of repetitive florals in different applications and stoic materiality.
The polished concrete throughout the main living area and vaulted ivory walls set a simple but strong foundation for the home. We designed the transition between the entryway and the remainder of the home to cause and compression and release affect. The entryway received limewash on walls with wallpaper on the ceiling with vintage European sconces.
The custom cabinets in the kitchen wrap the entire room giving an abundance in storage but with sweet touches such as the curved toe kick. The wood sink was designed to coordinated with the stained interior of the kitchen cabinets and reclaimed wood beams. We decided to take inspiration from historic delft tiles when considering the kitchen backsplash, but with our own personal twist. Each piece was handmade with a floral press detail and left with a matte finish to mimic natural stone. Although the limestone countertops are beautiful, they were selected for their quiet approach and ability to play second fiddle to the steel wall.
The open concept from the kitchen to living room was heavily focused on comfort and simplicity. The fireplace tile was kept classic and sophisticated in its black and a white marble selection and custom bench seating on either side.
The Dutch door from the kitchen leads you into the color drenched laundry room where function and beauty were carefully blended together. The large concrete sink was a nod to the industrial floor and old British kitchens while the marble floor showcased that classic choices never go out of style.
